Introduction

The Chemical Reaction Engineering and Catalysis research core (CREC) conducts research activities in order to optimize and solve the problems of petrochemical process reactors and environmental issues in the region through materials engineering, theoretical and experimental catalytic research, process simulation and CFD simulation. Gas conversions include methane reforming reactions, methanol to olefin conversion and new reactions for capture and conversion of CO2 and (photo)-catalytic removal of waste water pollutants, synthesis of ion exchange resins, biofuels, as well as combustion improvement (chemical looping combustion) combustion Is of special interest. At present, very good experience has been gained in the synthesis of nanostructured materials such as molecular sieves, ordered mesoporous materials and core-shell structures.

Laboratory facilities for materials characterization available in Persian Gulf University such as XRD, FTIR, UV-vis, TGA-DSC, DLS, Zeta potential, Atomic Absorption, TPX, CHNS, MICROWAVE, GC, GC-MS, facilitate the possibility of conducting advanced research projects. It is possible to test low pressure reactions at high temperatures by online GC analysis of gas products. Research is also underway with China University of Petroleum, YONSEI University, South Korea, and University of Calgary, Canada, which enables the use of advanced characterization analyses such as XPS (Depth Profiling), NMR, TGA-MS, and HR-TEM.
